Motu Patlu Mission Moon Review: Is It Really Interesting Movie?

So I watched motu patlu mission moon movie recently and I have to say this one has a concept that immediately sounds interesting. Motu and Patlu going to the Moon. Not just visiting some mysterious island or going on a road trip but actually launching into space on a proper mission. For a franchise that started with short comedy episodes about two friends in Furfuri Nagar that is a pretty big jump.

The movie also does something smart. It connects the problems happening on the Moon directly to what is happening on Earth. So the stakes feel bigger than just saving one place. Let me walk you through the full story, what worked, what felt weak and whether you should watch it.

    About the Movie (Details)

Motu Patlu Mission Moon released on 25 December 2013 on Nickelodeon India as a Christmas Day special. It is the second animated movie in the Motu Patlu franchise. The movie was produced by Deepa Sahi and Anish JS Mehta with Anu Sikka as Executive Producer. It was directed by Suhas Kadav and written by Niraj Vikram. Created by Maya Digital Studios in association with Viacom18. Total running time of this movie is 71 minutes.

Saurav Chakraborty voices practically the entire main cast including Motu, Patlu, Dr. Jhatka, Ghasitaram and Inspector Chingum. His performances have honestly been one of the biggest reasons behind the popularity of this franchise and that holds true in this movie as well.

The movie does not have a widely available IMDb rating right now because audience submissions have been too low to generate a verified score. But among Motu Patlu fans it is generally remembered positively for its space adventure concept which was quite ambitious for the franchise at that time.

What Actually Happens in the Movie?

The movie opens with something unusual happening on both the Moon and Earth at the same time. The Moon is slowly losing its shape and brightness. And back on Earth severe earthquakes start hitting one after another causing panic everywhere including in Furfuri Nagar where Motu, Patlu, Dr. Jhatka and Ghasitaram are just trying to have a normal day.

News reports start coming in about strange things happening on the Moon. Meanwhile on the Moon itself the Moon King gathers all his citizens and explains the real problem. The Moon’s precious lunar soil is being taken away from it. Without that soil the Moon is losing both its structure and its glow. If this keeps going the Moon’s inhabitants will not be able to survive for much longer.

An urgent call for help goes out and Dr. Jhatka wastes no time. He prepares a spaceship and the team launches into space. Mission Moon has officially begun.

When they arrive on the Moon the situation turns out to be even more serious than expected. Many Moon citizens have gone missing. Some have been turned into robotic servants against their will. The Moon Princess Chandni also gets caught up in the unfolding events in a way that complicates things further.

As Motu and Patlu investigate they discover the person responsible for all of this. A greedy villain named Drago has set up a massive mining operation on the Moon. His plan is straightforward but very damaging. He is extracting the Moon’s special soil and converting it into gold using advanced machines. He wants to become unimaginably rich and he does not care what happens to the Moon or to Earth in the process.

Every time Drago removes more lunar soil the Moon gets weaker and smaller. And that imbalance directly affects Earth’s gravitational stability which is what is causing all the earthquakes back home. The connection between the two problems is actually a clever detail and gives the adventure a sense of real urgency.

So now it becomes a race against time. Motu and Patlu have to shut down Drago’s entire operation before the damage becomes permanent. They face robotic soldiers, advanced machines and various obstacles along the way. Patlu uses his intelligence to figure out how to get past each problem while Motu relies on his samosa powered strength whenever things get dangerous.

The final part builds toward a proper confrontation with Drago. After getting into his facility Motu, Patlu, Dr. Jhatka and Ghasitaram start dismantling the machines that are stripping the Moon of its soil. Drago fights back with his technology and his robotic army but the heroes keep pushing forward.

Motu’s samosa fuelled strength plays a big role in the climax as expected. Combined with Patlu’s quick thinking and Dr. Jhatka’s inventions the team gradually gains the upper hand and eventually destroys Drago’s entire operation.

The lunar soil is restored. The Moon regains its shape and brightness. The earthquakes on Earth stop. The Moon citizens celebrate and Motu and his friends head back home having completed one of their biggest missions ever.

What I Felt While Watching this Movie?

The space setting is genuinely the strongest thing this movie has going for it. Taking Motu and Patlu completely out of Furfuri Nagar and putting them on the Moon creates a fresh atmosphere that feels different from anything in the regular show. The Moon Kingdom, the Moon King, Princess Chandni and Drago’s mining operation all help build a new world that is visually interesting and fun to explore.

I also appreciated the Earth and Moon connection. Making the problems on the Moon directly responsible for the earthquakes on Earth was a smart way to raise the stakes. It means the mission is not just about saving some distant place. It is about protecting home too.

The Motu and Patlu teamwork dynamic continues to be the best part of this franchise. Patlu always brings the plan and Motu always brings the chaos and somehow it always works out. That formula still feels fresh here because the space setting gives it a new context.

My honest criticism is about Drago. His motivation is clear enough he wants to get rich and does not care about the consequences. But the movie does not give him enough screen time to feel like a truly memorable villain. He is more of a plot device than a fully developed character. A few extra scenes showing more of his personality would have helped.

Some parts of the story also move a bit quickly. The Moon world has enough interesting elements that a slightly longer runtime could have explored them more deeply. At 71 minutes it always feels like it is rushing to the next scene.

But these are minor issues. For what it is trying to do the movie works well and it is definitely more fun than the average Motu Patlu episode.

    Should You Watch this Movie?

Yes especially if you are a Motu Patlu fan. The space adventure concept alone makes it worth watching at least once. It feels more ambitious than a regular episode and the Moon setting keeps things visually fresh throughout.

For kids it is a very entertaining watch with good action, comedy and a clear mission to follow. For older viewers it is a decent fun animated movie as long as you are not expecting deep storytelling.

If you have already watched Motu Patlu in Wonderland which was the first Motu Patlu movie then this is a good next step. Mission Moon is a more focused and more confident film and you can see the improvement between the two.

    Where to Watch this Movie?

It is available on JioHotstar for streaming. Also airs on Nick India TV channel whenever they schedule it. The movie is available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali so you can watch in whichever language you prefer.

    Final Thoughts

Motu Patlu Mission Moon is a fun and well made space adventure that takes the franchise somewhere genuinely new. The concept of saving the Moon from a greedy villain while also protecting Earth from earthquakes gives the story proper stakes and the Moon setting keeps the whole thing visually interesting. Drago could have been a stronger villain and some parts move a little too quickly but overall this is a solid and enjoyable entry in the Motu Patlu movie series.

Go ahead and watch it. You will have a good time. That is all for today. Drop any movie requests in the comments and I will get to them. Thanks for reading.

    “Keep watching, keep exploring!”
