So I have just finished watching another movie of Chhota Bheem. The movie was Bheem vs Aliens and I have to say this is one of the most unusual Chhota Bheem movies I have seen so far. Usually Bheem faces demons, evil kings, magical creatures or dangerous villains who threaten Dholakpur. The solution is always some combination of strength, courage and teamwork. But this movie does something completely different. The threat comes from outer space and the final battle is not a battle at all. It is a cricket match.
I know that sounds strange. Aliens challenging Earth to a cricket match to decide whether they colonize the planet or leave it alone. But here is the thing, it actually works. Once you accept the premise the movie becomes a genuinely entertaining blend of science fiction and sports that I was not expecting to enjoy as much as I did. Let me walk you through the whole thing.
About the Movie (Details)
Chhota Bheem: Bheem vs Aliens movie released on 12 December 2010 and originally premiered on Pogo TV channel. The movie was produced and directed by Rajiv Chilaka under Green Gold Animation. The story was written by Nidhi Anand, Teja Pratap and Darsana Radhakrishnan. Total runtime of the movie is about 69 minutes means (1 hour 9 minutes).
The voice cast includes Vatsal Dubey as Bheem, Rupa Bhimani as Chutki, Julie Tejwani as Raju, Rajesh Kava as Jaggu and Kyto, Sabina Malik Mausam as Kalia and Jigna Bhardwaj as Dholu and Bholu.
Ratings of the Movie
The IMDb rating is 6.7 out of 10. That is a decent score for an animated television special and honestly after watching it I think that rating is fair. It is not the strongest Chhota Bheem movie but it is a fun and memorable one for a very specific reason that I will get into shortly.
What Actually Happens in the Movie?
The story starts peacefully in Dholakpur until a giant alien spacecraft suddenly appears in the sky and immediately starts causing panic. The spaceship belongs to an extraterrestrial race from a planet called Zeake. Their commander is a powerful alien named Kyto and he wastes no time launching an attack on Dholakpur. The kingdom’s defenses cannot handle the aliens’ advanced technology and parts of the royal palace get damaged during the invasion. Things get even worse when King Indravarma and Princess Indumati are captured and taken hostage.
Everyone in Dholakpur is terrified. Everyone except Bheem. He gathers Chutki, Raju, Jaggu, Kalia, Dholu and Bholu and decides to confront the aliens directly.
When Bheem faces Kyto something unexpected happens. Instead of just destroying everything Kyto is actually impressed by Bheem’s courage. He decides Earth deserves a chance to defend itself. So he proposes a challenge. Earth’s champions must compete against Team Zeake in a game called Plutocket. If Earth wins the aliens leave. If Earth loses the planet gets colonized.
Bheem and his friends secretly watch the aliens practice and quickly realize that Plutocket is basically cricket. Same rules, same format, same everything. Suddenly Earth has a real fighting chance.
The majority of the movie from this point onward is the cricket match itself and it is genuinely the best part of the whole film. The alien opening batsmen Liska and Peptik have bizarre batting styles and unusual movements that make it very difficult for Earth’s bowlers to read them. When Team Earth gets to bat things go badly. Wickets keep falling under pressure and the team struggles to put up any kind of competitive total. By the end of their innings Team Prithvi has managed only 117 runs while losing nine wickets. It is a small score but Bheem, Chutki and Kichak play important roles in making sure the total stays respectable.
Kalia, Dholu and Bholu provide plenty of comedy throughout the match. Their nervous reactions and accidental mistakes keep things lighthearted even when the tension is building up.
When the aliens start their chase Kyto immediately shows why he is the leader. He dominates the innings, scores boundaries easily and builds a powerful half century. Every over Team Zeake gets closer to victory and the future of Earth starts looking genuinely uncertain.
Then comes the final over. Team Zeake needs 16 runs from 6 balls to win. The first ball disappears for a massive six and suddenly the momentum shifts completely toward the aliens. But Bheem’s team refuses to give up. Through disciplined bowling and determined fielding they restrict the damage delivery by delivery.
Everything comes down to the final ball. Team Zeake needs 6 runs from 1 ball. Kyto is on strike. He launches a massive shot high into the sky that looks like it is going to clear the boundary for a match winning six.
Then comes the best moment of the whole movie. Dholu and Bholu both sprint toward the same catch. The whole scene is set up to make you think they are about to collide and drop it completely. Instead they coordinate perfectly at the last second and take a synchronized catch to dismiss Kyto.
Earth wins. Kyto keeps his word. He releases King Indravarma and Princess Indumati, orders his forces to leave and retreats back into space. Dholakpur is saved not through war but through cricket.
What I Felt While Watching this Movie?
The biggest thing I want to say is that the cricket match genuinely works as the main event of this movie. I was not sure about this concept going in but the way the match is structured and paced actually makes it feel like a proper sports movie climax. The tension builds naturally over each over and by the time you reach the final ball you are genuinely invested in the result. That is not easy to achieve in a 69 minute animated movie and the creators deserve credit for pulling it off.
Kyto is also a surprisingly interesting villain. He invades Earth and takes the king hostage but he follows a clear code of honor throughout the whole movie. He does not cheat during the match and when he loses he keeps his word immediately without any tricks. That kind of honorable villain is quite rare in children’s animation and it makes him feel like a character rather than just an obstacle.
The Dholu and Bholu catch at the end is my favorite moment in the movie. These two exist almost entirely for comedy throughout the franchise. Seeing them accidentally become the heroes who save Earth in the final moment is both funny and genuinely satisfying. The movie earns that moment because it spends the whole match setting them up as the least reliable members of the team.
My only real criticism is the transition from alien invasion to cricket tournament. The movie asks you to accept that the fate of an entire planet is being decided through a sporting event and that requires quite a bit of suspension of disbelief even for a children’s animated movie. Once you get past that the movie flows well but the jump from invasion to sports competition does feel a little sudden.
Also at 1 hour 9 minutes, the movie moves fast. Some of the alien characters and their world could have been explored more. But for the target audience the pacing works fine.
Should You Watch this Movie?
Yes definitely. Especially if you want something completely different from the usual Chhota Bheem adventures. The alien setting and cricket tournament combination makes this one of the most unique specials in the franchise and it is memorable in a way that many standard Bheem adventures are not.
If you are a cricket fan you will probably enjoy this even more than a regular viewer because the match is treated seriously and structured like a real championship final rather than a throwaway side event.
For kids it is exciting, funny and has a satisfying ending. For older viewers it is a fun nostalgia watch with a genuinely creative concept at its center.
Out of the Chhota Bheem movies I have reviewed on this blog so far, this one is the most unusual by a good distance. Chhota Bheem Aur Krishna and Pataliputra City of Dead both have stronger emotional depth but Bheem vs Aliens wins on pure originality. It is doing something no other Chhota Bheem movie attempts and that alone makes it worth watching. The movie originally premiered on Pogo TV and still appears there during special broadcasts from time to time. They broadcast in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages. So people from all around India can watch it irrespective of their language they speak.
Final Thoughts
Chhota Bheem Bheem vs Aliens is one of the most creative entries in the entire Chhota Bheem franchise. Replacing the traditional final battle with a high stakes cricket match was a bold decision and it works far better than it has any right to. The alien invasion setup, the honorable villain, the sports movie tension in the final over and the unexpected heroes in Dholu and Bholu all come together to make something genuinely memorable.
