So recently I watched Motu Patlu in Wonderland Movie and honestly this one felt a little different to watch compared to other Motu Patlu movies. Not because it is the best one in the franchise. It is actually not. But because this is the movie that started everything.
Before Wonderland, Motu and Patlu were only known for their short TV episodes. Small adventures, funny moments, the usual chaos of Furfuri Nagar. There was never a full length story that took these characters somewhere bigger. Wonderland was the first time the creators decided to give Motu and Patlu a proper movie with a bigger world, a larger villain and a real adventure.
That itself made me curious to watch it properly. So let me walk you through the whole thing. Full story, what I liked, what did not work, and whether you should watch it today. Let us start.
About the Movie
Motu Patlu in Wonderland released on 10 July 2013 on Nick India TV channel. It is the very first full length animated movie in the Motu Patlu franchise. The movie was produced by Deepa Sahi and Anish JS Mehta, directed by Suhas Kadav and created by Maya Digital Studios along with Cosmos Entertainment. Total running time of this movie is about 76 minutes.
The IMDb rating is 6.8 out of 10. Honestly for a first attempt at a feature length movie from this franchise that is a fair rating. Not outstanding but decent enough.
What Actually Happens in the Movie?
The movie opens in a really fun way. We see Motu in what looks like a full action spy sequence. He is chasing a thief through a tall building in Dubai, avoiding traps, doing heroic stunts and acting like a complete action hero. It is exciting for a minute and then suddenly reality kicks in. The whole thing was just Motu’s dream. In real life he was sleeping and punching Patlu by mistake the whole time. Simple joke but it works well as an opening.
After that we are back in Furfuri Nagar. Motu wants samosas, Patlu reminds him about unpaid bills, Chotu comes asking for snacks and Inspector Chingum is running after John the Don somewhere nearby. Everything feels like a normal episode at first.
Then Dr. Jhatka comes with big news. He has built an experimental aircraft that can reach a mysterious island that nobody has ever explored before. Everyone gets excited immediately. Motu, Patlu and the whole group board the aircraft. But John the Don secretly sneaks in and ends up causing a malfunction. The aircraft loses control and crashes straight into a volcanic crater on the island.
And that is where the real adventure begins.
The island is nothing like anything they have seen before. Strange creatures, dangerous forests, unknown plants everywhere. The first big moment comes when Motu saves a small flying lizard named Liza from a dangerous predator called Toateesaurus. That small act of kindness turns out to be very important because it earns the trust of a local tribe called Mo Kisa who live on the island.
The tribe welcomes Motu and his friends warmly and for a short while everything feels peaceful and fun. But that does not last long.
The real villain of the movie is revealed. His name is Robotus and he rules a kingdom called Isopia. His plan is to conquer the whole island and then freeze the entire Earth. During one of his attacks the tribe leader Joozu gets captured. Motu and the group decide they are going to rescue him and stop Robotus before things get worse.
Before they leave for Isopia the tribe gives them magical invisible fruits that temporarily make them invisible. This leads to some entertaining and funny sequences as they pass through areas full of carnivorous plants and giant cacti.
Meanwhile Robotus captures Dr. Jhatka and forces him to build a machine that can freeze the whole planet. Joozu is also being held inside and keeps quietly sabotaging the machine parts whenever he gets a chance. And in one of the funniest moments of the movie Robotus also captures John the Don and forces him to make samosas specifically to use as a trap for Motu.
When Motu and Patlu finally reach Isopia things go bad fast. Liza gets frozen while trying to protect them. And eventually even Motu and Patlu themselves end up trapped inside a giant ice ball. For a moment it genuinely feels like the heroes have no way out.
Then samosas save the day. Again. Motu eats John’s samosas, gets his strength back, breaks out of the ice and starts fighting back. They free Dr. Jhatka and Ghasitaram, take down the robotic guards and finally go after Robotus directly.
The problem is Robotus keeps coming back. Normal attacks do not finish him because he just regenerates. So they have to figure out his weakness. Turns out intense light destroys him. They redirect a powerful light source at him and that is the end of Robotus.
Peace returns to the island. Dr. Jhatka builds a new aircraft and everyone finally heads back home.
What I Felt While Watching?
The biggest thing I noticed was the ambition of this movie. For a franchise that had only done short comedy episodes before this, Wonderland tries to build an entire new adventure world. A hidden island, a tribe, a villain with a world domination plan, magical fruits, a flying lizard companion. All of that together is a genuinely interesting concept and on paper it sounds very exciting.
And to be honest many individual moments do work nicely. Saving Liza felt warm. The invisible fruit sequence was fun. The Robotus light weakness idea was creative. These are good ideas.
But the problem is the movie never slows down enough to let any of these ideas breathe properly. New things keep getting introduced and then moving on before they can leave any real impact. The Mo Kisa tribe for example felt like they could have played a much bigger role in the story. Isopia as a villain’s kingdom also deserved more screen time. The whole movie rushes through its own world which is a shame because the world itself is actually interesting.
The samosa power thing also starts feeling repetitive here. It is funny once or twice but by the time it becomes the solution to the final crisis as well it has already lost some of its punch.
But I still respect what this movie tried to do. This was the very first Motu Patlu movie ever made. They were trying something completely new with these characters and the ambition they showed here is genuinely impressive even if the execution does not always keep up.
Should You Watch This Movie?
Yes, at least once. Not because it is the strongest Motu Patlu film but because it is where the whole movie journey started. If you are someone who enjoys watching a franchise from the beginning then this is where you start with Motu Patlu movies.
Kids will enjoy the colourful visuals, funny moments and fast moving adventure. Older viewers will find it interesting to see how the franchise was experimenting with bigger storytelling for the very first time.

Final Thoughts
Motu Patlu in Wonderland is not a perfect movie. But it deserves full credit for what it attempted. It took a simple TV comedy and tried to turn it into a proper full length adventure with new locations, bigger stakes and a real villain. Some of it works really well and some of it needed more time to develop. But as the starting point of the Motu Patlu movie journey it is a very important watch.
