So today I watched Chhota Bheem Aur Krishna Movie. Honestly I was not expecting it to hit as hard as it did. I have seen many Chhota Bheem movies over the years but this movie has always had a special reputation among fans. People still talk about it even today which is saying a lot for an animated movie that is this old.

So I finally sat down and watched it properly and now I want to share everything I felt about it. I will tell you the full story, what I liked, what felt weak and whether you should actually watch this movie or not. Let us start.

    About the Movie

Chhota Bheem Aur Krishna was released on 24 August 2008 (India) and it is the first full length adventure movies from the Chhota Bheem franchise. The movie was produced and directed by Rajiv Chilaka under Green Gold Animation. The story was written by Niraj Vikram and the music was composed by Sunil Kaushik. Total running time of this movie is around 68 to 69 minutes.

The voice cast includes Vatsal Dubey as Bheem, Rupa Bhimani as Chutki, Julie Tejwani as Raju, Rajesh Kava as Jaggu, Sabina Malik Mausam as Kalia, Jigna Bhardwaj as Dholu and Bholu, Samridhii Shukla as Indumati and Sachin Yadav as Kirmada.

The movie was mainly broadcast on Pogo TV and currently holds an IMDb rating of around 7.2 to 7.3 out of 10. For an animated television movie that is a pretty solid rating and after watching it I completely understand why people gave it that.

What Actually Happens in the Movie?

The movie opens with a really powerful scene. Bhotakpur’s army is on the battlefield and a wounded spy comes running to warn everyone that something terrible is coming. Before anyone can even react properly a huge dark figure appears and that is Kirmada. Within moments he destroys the entire army’s confidence, kills their commander and the king himself accepts defeat. Even that does not satisfy Kirmada. The whole army runs away in fear and just from this opening scene you understand that this villain is different from the usual ones.

Back in Dholakpur, King Indravarma is sitting in his court with Bheem when Kirmada’s messenger arrives. The message is simple and scary. Either surrender Dholakpur by tomorrow or face complete destruction. But Bheem refuses to accept this. He clearly says that Dholakpur will not bow down no matter what happens.

The next day Dholakpur’s army reaches the battlefield but Kirmada’s forces are nowhere to be seen. During this time Bheem receives a magical sword from a sorceress. Using the sword he reflects sunlight on Kirmada’s army and gains an early advantage. For a while it looks like Bheem might actually win this quickly.

But as the sun sets everything changes. Kirmada’s forces become stronger in the darkness. Dholakpur starts losing badly. King Indravarma gets captured. And eventually Bheem is forced to give up the magical sword. He and his friends are all taken prisoner.

Inside Kirmada’s prison the conditions are very harsh. Food comes only once every two days. But Bheem and his friends do not give up. They somehow manage to get hold of a metal plate and slowly start digging their way out of the dungeon over several days. This whole prison escape sequence is actually one of the more interesting parts of the movie because it shows that Bheem cannot just punch his way out of every situation. He has to think, plan and work with his friends.

Bheem, Chutki, Jaggu, Raju and their general successfully escape. But Kalia, Dholu and Bholu get caught before they can get out and are taken back into captivity.

The group hides in a forest and finds a sage who explains the real history of Kirmada. The sage tells them that Kirmada is not an ordinary enemy and that only divine help can defeat him. He advises Bheem to pray to Lord Krishna.

As days pass Bheem becomes more and more frustrated. Then one day he comes back to find that his friends have accidentally eaten poisonous fruits and are lying unconscious. At this desperate moment Bheem runs around searching for help and comes across a young shepherd boy named Kanha. Kanha looks completely ordinary at first but he immediately uses special herbs to heal Bheem’s friends and then casually asks if he can join the group.

From this point Kanha becomes a very important part of the story and you start getting small hints that he is not just a regular boy.

Before the final battle Kanha quietly helps Kalia, Dholu and Bholu escape from Kirmada’s prison. He also gives Kalia a very specific mission. Kalia has to rescue King Indravarma, Princess Indumati and all the imprisoned soldiers before the main battle starts.

The next day Kirmada once again demands that Bheem surrender. But at exactly the right moment Kalia completes his mission and lowers the fort flag as a signal. Dholakpur’s forces launch a surprise attack and a massive battle begins.

During the fight Kirmada uses his most powerful weapon, the Brahmastra, and fires it directly at Bheem. It looks like the end. But the weapon touches Kanha and instead of destroying anything it turns into a beautiful garland around his neck.

And that is the moment. Kanha reveals himself as Lord Krishna. The entire battlefield goes silent. Krishna rises and shows his divine form and in that moment you feel the full weight of everything the movie has been building towards. With Krishna’s guidance and blessings Bheem finds the strength to face Kirmada properly. The final battle happens, Kirmada is defeated and peace returns to Dholakpur.

The movie ends with Lord Krishna saying that whenever evil rises in the world, goodness will always find a way to fight back. Simple message but it lands beautifully here.

How was My Experience While Watching the Movie?

The first thing I want to say is that Kirmada is genuinely one of the scariest villains in the whole Chhota Bheem franchise. Most villains in these movies show up, cause some trouble and then get defeated without too much effort. Kirmada is different. He beats Bheem. He captures the king. He throws everyone in prison. He stays threatening throughout the whole movie and that makes the story feel much more serious than a regular Chhota Bheem adventure.

I also really liked the fact that Bheem does not win easily here. He struggles, he loses, he gets imprisoned, his friends fall unconscious at one point and he has to run around desperately looking for help. Seeing Bheem in that kind of situation where strength alone is not enough is very refreshing. It makes you genuinely wonder how things are going to turn out.

The prison escape was a nice surprise too. It was tense and creative and showed the group working together properly instead of just relying on Bheem to handle everything alone.

But the best part is obviously the Krishna reveal. The movie earns that moment completely. Kanha spends enough time with the group, helps them in small ways, drops small hints here and there and then when the Brahmastra moment happens the reveal hits exactly the way it should. It gave me goosebumps honestly.

The animation is simple compared to newer Chhota Bheem movies. But the story is strong enough that the animation quality honestly does not matter much while you are watching it.

    Should You Watch This Movie?

Yes definitely. Whether you are a Chhota Bheem fan or not, this movie is worth watching at least once. It has a strong villain, a story that actually makes Bheem work hard for his victory, a well built up divine entry and a satisfying ending. It does not feel like a regular episode stretched into a movie. It feels like a proper adventure with real stakes.

For kids, it is exciting and entertaining throughout. For older viewers the mythology angle and the way the story is structured will keep you interested even if you have not watched Chhota Bheem in years.

    Where to Watch this Movie?

You can watch it on Pogo TV channel whenever they air it. It is also available on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video for streaming. If you want good quality and no interruptions then Netflix or Prime Video are the best options for this one. Unfortunately, this movie is not freely available on YouTube, otherwise I could provide the direct link here. So you may watch it using these OTT platforms.

    Our Final Thoughts

Chhota Bheem Aur Krishna is one of those animated movies that genuinely holds up even today. The combination of action, mythology, friendship and a villain who actually feels dangerous makes it stand out from most other Chhota Bheem films. If you have not watched this one yet then you are really missing something. Go watch it.

That is all for today. If you want me to review any other movie just drop it in the comments. Thank you for reading.

    “Keep watching, keep exploring!”
